Iceberg Rose Hips

rose hips

I’ve long thought that rose hips are the most striking part of the plant; once the soft petals and shiny leaves of the rose has dropped to the ground, the study, plump, colorful hips linger on. This is from an Iceberg rose (floribunda, Kordes, 1958) from a patch at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. This lovely park will be the evening stroll destination for Kid One – my beloved oldest child – who moved out of his childhood home to a new town into an apartment of his own today.
